Nearer the Goal…

?Know what you want to do, hold the thought firmly, and do every day what should be done, and every sunset will see you that much nearer the goal.?
Elbert Hubbard

I’ve been writing all my life. I have two books I’ve completed that may never see the light of day. I have hundreds of short stories, even more hundreds of thought essays, and random book ideas saved on my computer.

I tried the publishing route a few times and allowed the rejections to keep my writing safely tucked away on my hard drive. Two years ago I decided my stories have value and I went all in with my writing.

In November of 2017, I wrote a novel which I have spent the last year and a half working on getting published. My goal is close now. Very close. So I’m writing this to anyone out there reading who has a dream. It doesn’t matter what your dream is, keep going. Every day do something toward your goal and, as the quote above says, with each sunset you will find yourself closer to it.

Don’t share your dreams with just anyone because everyone won’t understand your vision. Some will even try to tear you down because they don’t have the guts to go after their own dreams.

But keep going.

People will fall out of your life.

But keep going.

People will laugh at you.

But keep going.

People will tell you the dream won’t work.

But keep going.

You may even find yourself saying “who am I to do this?” Do it anyway.

Don’t do it for the money. Don’t do it for the fame. Don’t do it for awards or anything else so shallow.

Do it because it makes you feel alive. Do it because doing it is like air to your lungs.

That’s why I’m still pushing. And I’m really close. It’s in the air. I see it on the not-so-distant horizon and I’m working for it every day, but it doesn’t feel like work because I love what I do.

That photo you see is me standing on a beach in Rhode Island at sunset. My hubby caught that shot and I love it because it reminds me to keep dreaming and planning…and working.

2019 is going to be an amazing year for me. My theme is “Excelsior!” (thank you, Mr. Stan Lee, for the inspiration).

It means onward and upward and that’s just what I’m doing.

You’ll definitely want to keep up with my blog posts this year. There are some exciting things in the works!

Until next time, my friends…

  1. I love the photo in this post. Audra, I’m glad that you were able to return to your dreams with renewed vigor and confidence – I have been on that rollercoaster with my own work, so I am always greatly inspired by those who find a way to insist upon bringing their gifts to the fore. I’m excited to follow your journey this year! Excelsior!!!
